I have to be careful or else I will hurt myself

May I be #safe.

A line from #metta #meditation, loving-kindness. Whether expressed inwardly or outwardly, this line speaks to the quality of safety. A universal need.

I hear its yearning when talking with people with #chronic #pain wanting to heal, in this week’s talk with Hiroshima bomb survivor and denuclearization activist, #Setsuko #Nakamura, and in the movie #TheZookeeperswife where 300 jews were hidden and kept safe.

This is also a duty. To return all beings to their knowing that they are their source of inward safety. No one, or no thing, can take this away from them. They are this voice. And a duty, of being human, to help all beings, the earth, this universe realize outward safety in physical form.

To start a meditation/awareness practice, is to return to ones’ true essence. And in this essence, in this returning to our eternal love, it becomes choiceless to help all beings realize this safety.

When we are in pain it is uncomfortable, we can’t do the things we love or need to get done, we may feel scared, we may feel alone in this suffering that we can’t get out of. If this pain happens over and over again, it can make us fearful of what will happen in the future…”If I’m this bad now, what will happen when I’m older?” All in all pain is exhausting, frustrating, and we can feel helpless; especially if we have been working with a physio or our doctor and just aren’t getting better. If we have been working with a physiotherapist, chiropractor or our doctor to relieve pain for weeks, months, or even years; and we haven’t gotten better yet, we will likely feel angry about this. We have likely thought: “Why aren’t I better yet? If I’m this bad now, what’s going to happen when I’m older? This is exhausting. I should be better by now.”

Often my clients believe that the anger is due to the constant pain. Because they are weak, limited, feel old, and not what they want to be. […]
